Xereta ("we", "us", "the site") is a free Portuguese–English dictionary. This policy explains what information is collected when you use xeretadict.com, how it's used, and the choices you have. Xereta is operated by Ryan King, contactable at info@xeretadict.com.
Search queries. Words you look up are sent to our server to return a definition. They are not linked to your identity, not stored against a personal profile, and not sold. We don't currently require or offer account registration, so there's no personal profile to attach them to even if we wanted to.
Automatically collected data. Like most websites, our server and hosting provider log standard technical information for every visit — IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and referring site. This is used for security, abuse prevention, and understanding overall traffic, not to identify individual visitors.
Cookies. We use minimal first-party cookies or local storage to remember your language preference (English/Portuguese) between visits. Once advertising is enabled (see below), third-party cookies from our advertising partners are also used.
Xereta displays advertisements served by Google AdSense to help cover the cost of running the site. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.

Xereta is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Dictionary content is sourced from Wiktionary and word-frequency data from the FrequencyWords project. Links to these and other external sites are provided for reference; we aren't responsible for the privacy practices of sites we don't operate.
We may update this policy as the site changes — for example, if we add analytics or new ad formats. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
